Another small this and that post.

Blog Stuff

I decided to remove all web fonts from my blog, now WOFF2. At the end it was nearly half an MB just for a slightly different font. Well, I used local fonts but still, tiny is better. Also at the footer of each post I integrated a webmention display via webmention.io. Finally for the Blog I updated the /uses page.

Home Desktop Win Free

1st of may is a public holiday in germany, I used to extended weekend to debug a small thing which got on my nerves recently. My home Desktop boot time was annoying me. Sometimes it needed 1-2 minutes to show the login screen. Don’t get me wrong, I am not always in a rush - but this is one hting I cant stand; Having a system I know it should boot in <20s and seeing something is not right. Just bugs me and causes something I call a “frustration focus” so it had to be solved no matter what. Guess what; It was the 2nd SSD in my System with a Win11 on it for dual boot. For what ever reason the systemd init every boot tried to “wait” for this drive. I set a udev rule, didnt helped. I excluded it fully in grub, did not help either. After tinkering around for longer then I should have, I finally decided that the last time I booted this windows I cant even remember so why bother… Partition table cleared and disk reinit as btrfs.

Result, boot time dropped from previously ~90s to 8s. Well. Thank you windows, not going to miss it.

Codeberg

I started to use codeberg for new Repos I host public. Still using github for the existing stuff and work but for private project the future git home will be codeberg. Interestingly I have an Account there already since 2020 but never started using it. Some of my stuff you can now find there codeberg.org/solariz

Laptop Stuff

Roughly a week ago Frame.work showcased their new Framework 13 Pro Laptop, it looks like most of the stuff which bothered me on the regular Framework 13 got major improvements. I couldnt resist and placed a preorder, I got mine in Batch 2 which is suppose to ship beginning of July. Let’s see. Beside the full Aluminium Unibody I most looking forward a variable refreshrate display and the new intel Series 3. I went with a Ultra 5 325, which is for my workload more than enough. It offers 4 Performance Cores and 4 Low Power efficient cores. They promise to have the battery runtim “issue” of older gens fixed. Due to the Series 3 specifications they need to go with a LPCAMM RAM Module which is a good way around soldering the ram on the board. Unfortunately at this pricing no more 64G for my laptop as I used in the past. I will report when the device arrived.
