## solariz.de
As written on the start page, this is totally my personal blog here; you will find all sort of code snippets, small tools, ‘how tos’ and more. Why solariz.de well, the domain is actually old, solariz was one of my many first gamer tags back in the 90s. Yes, I know – I’m official old :( But more about me later.
This blog is not intended for commercial purposes; it is a place for me to make notes and share links with people who ask me questions. Therefore, please do not contact me regarding advertisements or any kind of paid content placement. I am not interested and it’s not going to happen.
## About me
Hi, I’m Marco and I’ve lived in Bochum, which is in western Germany (about 75 km / 46 miles to the Netherlands), for over 25 years.
I was part of the first ’teenager’ generation, back when the Internet was just staring getting popular for normal users using first dial-up Modems and later ISDN. Those were the 80s, though.
Back then, my teacher told me that all that internet stuff would disappear as quickly as it came, and that I should focus on learning some real skills instead. I wasn’t happy with the answer, so I started looking into all this internet nonsense as a hobby. I set up my own BBS and later I started visiting and organising LAN parties. First there were a few dozen people, then more than 2,000 people were crammed into one hall.
About at the height of the dotcom boom I was part of setting up a company that run on the lanparty hype of the time. We were not much into organising own parties these days, we rather help others and run a general LAN party news site, a LAN gaming league and all kinds of related stuff. The company founded in 2000 is what I’ve been up to until now: Very quickly most of us stopped doing LAN parties, and focused on all kinds of projects and technical services for events focused around the gaming industry. THe speciallity is combining technical and gaming know-how to help our clients create memorable events. So, if you ever need someone with technical know-how and experience, have a look at our offered services over at planetlan.de.
On this blog, I write about all kinds of topics, often niche subjects. I mainly do it to create a public knowledge base archive.

## Tech Stack Behind This Blog
The tech stack powering this blog is actually pretty simple. I am running it on Hugo, the static site generator, paired with the clean PaperMod theme. Everything is locally built from Markdown into HTML.
The whole blog is hosted on BunnyNet storage, which has BunnyCDN in front to speed things up and handle quick delivery of the traffic. Bunny CDN is a European-based content delivery network that throws in extras like a WAF for security and even script runners if you need. I can recommend it over Cloudflare if you’re looking for something EU-based, affordable, and reliable. Curious? Check their free trial out through my Bunny.net affiliate link. They also have a Discord for questions and support.
For keeping things easy to manage, all the content lives in a Git repo, stored as plain Markdown files. This makes editing easy without any CMS.
