testing Wow ChatMOD rev. 132 for 3.1.0

wowscrnshot 041809 120334 testing Wow ChatMOD rev. 132 for 3.1.0 gaming

Ok first at all this post is written in english because I want to collect every Feedback not just from german users. After 7 month without an really neccesary update I have to change some things because of minor compatibility issues reported by some users. The work I done this noon was mainly fixing bugs reported since the last revision 131 in October ‘08. Also I Updated some parts of the language files and decided to switch the whole Addon to UTF-8 encoding because of the Chinese version.

Custom Highlighter

But besides several bugfixes the custom highlighter function was improved, in the past there was this nasty behavior of the highlighter, highlighting textparts within words. For Example, you configured to highlight the word “Resi” now the highlighter did his job and highlighted everything with the substring resi. This leads to strange highlightings like Resistance. Since rev 132 there is a additional option in the Highlighter screen “full words only” I guess I do not have explain what it acualy does.

Some denounced functions

Actualy only two.The 1st is the “Dismout on Taxi” this function is now implemented in the GameClient itself so no need for the Mod to do this. 2nd one is the Itemlinker this module caused me trouble since I first implement it. There are some other grat mods out there just doing item linking. Currently the wow client does support so many kinds of links that it simple is to much to have this as a  goodie function in a chatmod.

Current Changelog

  • update locale zhCN
  • chinese wow client chatmod fix
  • Aizotu fix, ClassToNum
  • updated to current Wow Version
  • main files now UTF-8
  • Mod. custom highlighter UI added button for “only full word”
  • Custom Highlighter improved
  • general code cleanup and prep. for further patches
  • removed autodismount because client can do this without a mod now
  • Removed Item Linking features, why ? type /chatmod chatlink

Current Status and Testing

Because I’m not playing wow actively at the moment I have no possibility to test the new release in a “real enviroment”. Of course I did a basic “dry testing” of all functions but you know there are many things which could cause errors you can’t really test sitting in Ironforge  ;)  btw. thanks to Hudiny who lent his account for rev 132 development.

My request to everybody who download the rev 132 testing version: Please post any found error or strange behavior as comment below this post. I will give this testing round about a week and try to fix all commented bugs on the next weekend. After this fix I will put online a public non beta.

Seems to be a conflict between chatmod and chronos, which is used in Reloadui.

Dude your Addons ist one of the best Chat Addons! Glad you kinda do the community a favour! :)

  3. Stegy says:

There is still an issue (for me anyway) with clicking linked items in chat, and other linked stuff, be it the name of the message sender or the website/item link sent to you in the message. If you click on the link, nothing happens. Not a thing. No error message either.

  4. Zorcan says:

Stegy, that’s a known issue with game patch, it’s posted in the sticky in the WoW forums.

  5. Darxide says:

I have had no problems with 132. It works great.

  6. Justin says:

    Hi there.
First of all, congratulations on a magnificent addon… I used all the chat addons and this one by far did everything I wanted it to do. I do have a problem though, and I am suprised it has not come up already. Having this addon enabled will make any npc that sells things and has a quest bug. Both the cooking daily questgiver and the fishing daily questgiver in Dalaran are examples of what will happen. I just discovered the cause Auto Gossip Skip needs to be set to Off. R u sure you want this to be the default behaviour? It can be confusing to many simpletons like myself :D
    Justin.

  7. solariz (@solariz) says:

ok, seems there is no real bug open. I will set the default value to some maybe confusing settings to off. And defenitly have to check out Chronos what`s going wrong.

  8. exatex says:

    Addon work for me.
You may be contact http://www.wowmatrix.com because you are not actually correctly supported by them, and this is the best way to update wow addons.

  9. solariz (@solariz) says:

@exatex: I will check wowmatrix but it seems a bit parasitic using curse & wowi bandwidth for own purpose.

    see: http://www.wowinsider.com/2009/04/14/curse-wow-interface-band-together-to-block-wowmatrix/

But as I read you can just send them a note on their feedback form and ask for currently unsupported mods.

Also conflict with chronos in Wardrobe-AL

Ok, I got the chronos bug. It will be fixed in rev 133

  12. Moin.
    ____________________________

Im using Chatbot since a long time and im glad to have it, but one thing is a bit annoying:
If u set the fontsize to 12 some parts of the text will be screwed up if icons enabled!
Its not important to me, but it has a bad “feeling” on reading. ;)

  13. Yang says:

Thank you for this great chat addon, it’s very helpful ;o)

  14. Shakaar says:

Hey solariz, nice to see you’re still working on the addon :)

133 still does not allow you to disable class coloured names in the chat. no matter what option you click the names are still coloured.

    /moo

  15. solariz (@solariz) says:

@Shakaar: Yep also I forgot to switch some default settings like Gossip skip. Things are noted on my 134 todo ;)

  16. AshTrai says:

Previous versions also do this, but… doing the command /wt (which is the trigger for the wintertime mod) it causes the following response from chatmod: ChatMOD: No target for /tt

  17. solariz (@solariz) says:

You can easiely remove this “bug” conflicting with wintertime by opening addons/chatmod/inc/ChatMOD.lua and search for SLASH_TT1 = “/wt”; replace it with any other letters you prefer.

  18. Paul says:

Hi there, can I recommend that there should be a forwarding link or at least a notification on the wow-chatmod.htm page about the most recent version:

    http://solariz.de/gaming/wow-chatmod.htm

I actually arrived at that page first (via a search engine) and thought that the most recent update was from last year!

In any case, thanks for the hard work, keep up the great job!

  19. Morgulo says:

Sehr nettes Addon!

    ——

Very nice addon! One question for the “class clolor”. Does class coloring not work for Trade and LFG channels? Is it possible to add this in a future version? Or is it possible to force a class lookup in any way?

  20. mrbene says:

I’ve really liked chatMOD, but found that it breaks item colorization in chat if the item has a guildee or friends name as a substring – for example, with guildee “Stoic” the item “[Amice of the Stoic Watch]” ends up as “[Amice of the" as purple, "Stoic" as class color, and "Watch]” as chat color.

I added the following argument to line 460 in ChatMOD.lua:

    and text:find("%[%w+%s%w") == nil

This takes advantage of the fact that whitespace is not allowed in character names, but is almost always present in item names (there’s a few exceptions, like “Glowcap”, but these have much lower incidence).

This change does mean that, if an item is linked along with a toon name, that toon name will not have the highlighting.

  21. solariz (@solariz) says:

@mrbene: ty for this I add it to the next release

@Morgulo: Class color – as long as you “know” the char – also work on the trade channels. But As said you need to know him. To can all persons in a trade channel can cause hughe problems So I decided to leave this out.

  22. mrbene says:

I actually rewrote lines 460 through 463, removing checks that are not needed and fixing behavior so that a toon name, URL, and item link can all appear on the same line with highlighting.

    if text and SCCN_InChatHighlight == 1 and arg8 ~= 3 and arg8 ~= 4 and string.sub(event, 1 , 8) == "CHAT_MSG" and string.sub(event, 1 , 15) ~= "CHAT_MSG_COMBAT" then
    local rWord = "";
for rWord in string.gmatch(text, "%w%w%w+") do
    if text:find("%[[%w%s]*"..rWord) == nil and rWord ~= arg2 and string.find(rWord,"|") == nil and string.find(rWord,"^%x*$") == nil and string.find(rWord,"^%a*$") ~= nil then

    Changes are:
Searching for “%w%w%w+” makes the “and string.len(rWord) > 3″ redundant.
New condition “text:find(“%[[%w%s]*”..rWord) == nil” makes “SCCN_URLFOUND == nil” and “SCCN_INVITEFOUND == nil” checks redundant (I think, tho I may have broken the invite thing), as well as my “text:find(“%[%w+%s%w”) == nil”. In addition, since this check happens inside the loop, it doesn’t prevent toon name highlighting when items or URLs appear.

I do think the checks after “rWord ~= arg2″ may be redundant, but I’m guessing you have put them in for a reason.

  23. mrbene says:

Actually, I didn’t break the invite thing.

  24. Blurge says:

Am getting problems with my Whispers with this Chatmod installed. I can send whispers but am not receiving them. Any ideas?

  25. cowshafe says:

Hey i like the add on its great but for some reason now the chat bar on top won’t work keeps on down the bottom? Is there a way i can have it back up the top i really miss that. Thanks again for the great addon and glad to see its been updated! :)
